Technical documentation
Description and applications
Technical information for the product family, to be verified for the specific application.
High resistance heat-activated adhesive film
3M Thermal Bonding Film 583 is a nitrile-phenolic film adhesive, slightly tacky at room temperature and designed to bond with heat and pressure. It can be post-cross-linked to increase internal, thermal and solvent resistance.
Process and materials
- Approximate adhesive thickness: 50.8 µm with transparent PET liner.
- Suitable for metals, plastics, rubbers and compatible fabrics, even in dissimilar combinations.
- Convertible into die-cut shapes before activation.
- Applicable with heated press, calender, thermode or equivalent equipment.
The 3M data sheet indicates as a starting point for bonding a line temperature between 107 and 149 °C, pressure from 15 to 40 psi and hold time from 2 to 10 seconds; they are not universal parameters.
Mandatory application verification: define temperature, pressure, time, cooling and post-cure on real materials. Storage and useful life are highly dependent on temperature.
